Vietnam Honeymoon Tour: Where to Go and When
Vietnam is one of Southeast Asia's most under-appreciated honeymoon destinations. In 10 to 14 days you can combine a Phu Quoc beach resort, a private overnight Halong Bay junk cruise, boutique heritage nights in Hoi An, and a spa retreat in Da Lat or Ninh Binh. This guide walks through where to go, when to book, what to actually spend, and the mistakes couples make.
I have helped design honeymoons for over a hundred couples at Meetup Travel. The couples who come back happiest picked slower over faster, 2 to 3 destinations over 5 to 6.
Prices are reference only and change with season, group size, and operator. Peak honeymoon season (Nov to Mar) commands higher rates.
Meetup Travel's Vietnam Honeymoon Journey 10D9N covers Hanoi, Halong Bay cruise, Hoi An, and Phu Quoc with private transfers, 4 to 5 star hotels, and romantic touches at each stop. See the Honeymoon Journey itinerary . Ask us to customize it for your dates

Is Vietnam a good honeymoon destination?
Yes, especially for couples who want romance, culture, and beach without paying Bali or Maldives prices. Vietnam gives you variety at a price level that leaves budget for the room upgrades and spa days that make a honeymoon feel like one.
Geographic variety in one country. Karst bays in the north, lantern heritage towns in the centre, tropical island resorts in the south, pine mountains in Da Lat, rice terraces in Sapa.
Affordable luxury. A 5 star suite in Phu Quoc often costs less than a 4 star room in Bali or Phuket during peak season.
Tropical without hurricane season if you time it right. Nov to Mar in the south is warm, dry, and calm.
English-speaking staff in tourism zones. Hoi An, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Halong cruise operators, and 4 to 5 star hotels handle English well.
Easy entry. The Vietnam e-visa covers most passports for up to 90 days.
Food that makes couples slow down. Long unhurried dinners are the honeymoon habit, and Vietnamese cuisine rewards this.

What are the most romantic destinations for a honeymoon in Vietnam?
The most romantic destinations for a Vietnam honeymoon are Halong Bay, Hoi An, Phu Quoc, Da Nang with Ba Na Hills, Sapa, and Ninh Binh. Pick 2 or 3 that match how you want the honeymoon to feel, not all six.
Destination | Vibe | Nights | Romance highlight | Best months |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Halong Bay | Dramatic, quiet, iconic | 1 to 2 | Cabin balcony over karsts at sunrise | Oct to Apr |
Hoi An | Warm, lantern-lit | 3 to 4 | Riverside lantern dinner + tailor for two | Feb to May |
Phu Quoc | Island resort, beach, spa | 3 to 5 | West-coast sunset dinner + villa spa | Nov to Apr |
Da Nang + Ba Na Hills | Beach + cable car mountain | 2 to 3 | Ba Na sunset + beach walk | Feb to Aug |
Sapa | Cool mountain retreat | 2 | Private trek + valley-view lodge | Sept-Nov, Mar-May |
Ninh Binh | Karst rice fields | 1 to 2 | Sampan through Trang An at dawn | Feb-May, Sept-Nov |
Halong Bay: the honeymoon icon that lives up to it
Halong Bay earns its reputation if you book a private or small-ship overnight junk cruise, not a day trip. A honeymoon suite with a private balcony, cave dinner, dawn kayak, and quiet karst views on either side of a candlelit deck is the moment couples remember most. Reference 5 star cruise suite: around USD 380 to 600+ per couple per night, all meals included.

Hoi An: lantern-lit heritage that couples never want to leave
Hoi An is the destination most couples ask to extend once they arrive. The old town glows with lanterns every night, the Thu Bon River fills with floating candles, and boutique riverside resorts sit ten minutes from the historic core. Add a tailor session, couples cooking class, and beach afternoon at An Bang. Reference: boutique 4 star around USD 90 to 160+ per night, 5 star riverside around USD 200 to 400+.

Phu Quoc: the resort finale a honeymoon should end on
Phu Quoc is where I send couples to end the trip, since it is the only Vietnamese destination built around resort culture. The southwest coast has 5 star beachfront villas with private pools, spa suites for two, and long white-sand beaches. See the full Phu Quoc breakdown for areas and transfers. Reference 5 star beach resort: around USD 200 to 500+ per night.

Da Nang and Ba Na Hills: beach plus mountain in one stop
Da Nang gives you beach resort days on My Khe and a half-day up Ba Na Hills for the Golden Bridge and cable car sunset. Best as a 2 to 3 night pairing before or after Hoi An (40 minutes apart). Reference 5 star beachfront: around USD 200 to 450+ per night.

Sapa: mountain retreat for couples who want quiet
Sapa is the choice for couples who want cool air, misty mornings, and hill-tribe village visits instead of another beach day. Works best as a 2-night add-on with a private guide and boutique valley-view lodge. Reference boutique lodge: around USD 80 to 250+ per night.

Ninh Binh: karst rice fields and a private sampan
Ninh Binh is the north's second act after Halong. A private sampan through Trang An at dawn plus a hidden pagoda climb gives you a landscape that feels unreal. Best as a 1 to 2 night boutique retreat, not a Hanoi day trip.

When is the best time for a Vietnam honeymoon?
February to April is the only stretch when all three regions are dry at the same time, so it is the safest window for a full north-to-south honeymoon. November to March is excellent for the north and the south, but it does not hold for Central Vietnam, and this is the single most common planning mistake we see.
Here is the part most honeymoon guides get wrong. Central Vietnam runs on the northeast monsoon, not the summer one. October and November are its two wettest months: Da Nang averages around 467 mm in November and Hoi An around 454 mm, and the Hoi An old town floods most years. In November 2025 the old town flooded three times in twenty days, with water reaching the Japanese Covered Bridge. So avoid Central Vietnam from September to November, treat December as a transition month that is improving but not yet reliably dry, and put Hoi An and Da Nang in February to May.

The north and the south follow a different clock: skip June to August in the north for heat and rain, and the south is at its best from November to April. Our Vietnam weather by month guide breaks each month down region by region.
Month | North (Hanoi, Halong, Sapa, Ninh Binh) | Central (Hoi An, Da Nang) | South (Phu Quoc, HCMC) | Honeymoon verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Jan | Cool, dry, misty | Mild, showers possible | Dry, warm | Very good, central still damp |
Feb | Cool, dry | Dry, warm | Dry, warm | Excellent |
Mar | Mild, dry | Dry, warm | Dry, warm | Peak sweet spot |
Apr | Warm, dry | Hot, dry | Hot, dry | Excellent, great for beach focus |
May | Warm, humid | Hot, still dry | Rain building | Good for central and beaches |
Jun to Aug | Hot, humid, rain | Very hot | Wet season | Avoid full circuit |
Sept | Cooling | Rain building, typhoon risk | Wet | Avoid central |
Oct | Pleasant | Wettest month, flood risk | Wet easing | Avoid central |
Nov | Cool, dry | Still very wet, flood risk | Dry, warm | Great for north and south, avoid central |
Dec | Cool, dry | Transition, drying out | Dry, warm | Good, central improving |

How many days do I need for a Vietnam honeymoon?
10 to 14 days is the sweet spot. 7 days feels rushed unless you stick to one region and one beach. 21 days works for genuine slow travel, but pace matters more than length.

Duration | Destinations | Pace | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
7 days | 2 stops (Hoi An + Phu Quoc) | Beach mini honeymoon | Tight leave |
10 days | 3 to 4 stops (Hanoi, Halong, Hoi An, Phu Quoc) | Classic honeymoon | Most couples |
14 days | 4 to 5 stops, slower pace | Slow honeymoon | Spa + beach days |
21 days | 5 to 6 stops with rest days | Extended slow travel | Sabbatical or long leave |

How much does a Vietnam honeymoon tour cost?
A Vietnam honeymoon at a 4 to 5 star private mid-range level typically costs around USD 2,800 to 6,000+ per couple total for 10 days. Reference per-person per-day rates: from around USD 140 to 200+ at 4 star mid-range private, from around USD 180 to 300+ at 5 star luxury private.
Tier | Per person per day | 10-day couple total (reference) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
3 star mid-range shared | Around USD 100 to 150+ | Around USD 2,000 to 2,800+ | Budget-conscious couples |
4 star mid-range private | Around USD 140 to 200+ | Around USD 2,800 to 3,400+ | Most common honeymoon tier |
5 star luxury private | Around USD 180 to 300+ | Around USD 3,600 to 5,000+ | Romantic honeymoon standard |
Ultra-luxury | Around USD 300 to 500+ | Around USD 6,000 to 10,000+ | Private villa, private junk, spa credits |
Honeymoon season (Nov to Mar) lifts hotel rates 20 to 40% above shoulder months. Phu Quoc resorts and 5 star Halong cruises are where budgets stretch fastest.

Should I book a Vietnam honeymoon package or plan it myself?
For a honeymoon, a package is worth it. DIY planning means hotel headaches, missed transfers, and language friction that eat into the first week. A curated package hands you a driver, guide, and hotel arrivals with zero admin, so the first morning in Vietnam is a spa morning, not a Google Maps morning.
Category | Package | DIY |
|---|---|---|
Time to plan | 2 to 3 emails | 20 to 40 hours research |
Hotel access | Operator honeymoon-suite relationships | Public rates only |
Private transfers | Included, coordinated | Booked one by one |
Local guide | Included at each stop | Booked separately or skipped |
Trouble handling | One WhatsApp contact | You solve it yourself |
Romantic add-ons | Pre-arranged | Requested at check-in, often missed |
Cost | Similar at same hotel tier | Rarely cheaper once you total transfers |
Best for | 95% of honeymoon couples | Repeat visitors who know Vietnam |

What are the common Vietnam honeymoon mistakes?
The most common Vietnam honeymoon mistakes come from trying to see too much, saving on the wrong things, and picking the wrong season. Avoid these 8 and the trip stays romantic instead of exhausting.
Cramming 5+ destinations into 10 days. Every flight day is a lost half-day. Cap at 3 to 4 stops.
Skipping a proper resort day at the end. Ending on a temple day instead of a beach day is the most common regret.
Booking cheap 3 star hotels to save money. Honeymoon is the one trip where room quality matters.
Missing the shoulder-season sweet spot. Early November and March give dry weather at slightly lower rates than deep peak.
Skipping the Halong overnight cruise. A day trip does not capture what makes Halong romantic. Sunrise on the water is the point.
Traveling Central Vietnam from Sept to Nov. This is flood season, not just typhoon season, and November is the wettest month of the year in both Da Nang and Hoi An. Shift Hoi An and Da Nang to Feb to May.
Not asking for honeymoon amenities in advance. Flowers, champagne, and suite upgrades need to be requested 2 to 4 weeks ahead.
Over-scheduling romantic dinners. Two or three planned dinners are romantic. Every night planned feels like a wedding schedule.
