Vietnam Honeymoon Tour: Where to Go and When

By GraceAug 18, 202613 min read

Vietnam is one of Southeast Asia's most under-appreciated honeymoon destinations. In 10 to 14 days you can combine a Phu Quoc beach resort, a private overnight Halong Bay junk cruise, boutique heritage nights in Hoi An, and a spa retreat in Da Lat or Ninh Binh. This guide walks through where to go, when to book, what to actually spend, and the mistakes couples make.

I have helped design honeymoons for over a hundred couples at Meetup Travel. The couples who come back happiest picked slower over faster, 2 to 3 destinations over 5 to 6.

Prices are reference only and change with season, group size, and operator. Peak honeymoon season (Nov to Mar) commands higher rates.

Meetup Travel's Vietnam Honeymoon Journey 10D9N covers Hanoi, Halong Bay cruise, Hoi An, and Phu Quoc with private transfers, 4 to 5 star hotels, and romantic touches at each stop. See the Honeymoon Journey itinerary . Ask us to customize it for your dates

Is Vietnam a good honeymoon destination?

Yes, especially for couples who want romance, culture, and beach without paying Bali or Maldives prices. Vietnam gives you variety at a price level that leaves budget for the room upgrades and spa days that make a honeymoon feel like one.

  • Geographic variety in one country. Karst bays in the north, lantern heritage towns in the centre, tropical island resorts in the south, pine mountains in Da Lat, rice terraces in Sapa.

  • Affordable luxury. A 5 star suite in Phu Quoc often costs less than a 4 star room in Bali or Phuket during peak season.

  • Tropical without hurricane season if you time it right. Nov to Mar in the south is warm, dry, and calm.

  • English-speaking staff in tourism zones. Hoi An, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Halong cruise operators, and 4 to 5 star hotels handle English well.

  • Easy entry. The Vietnam e-visa covers most passports for up to 90 days.

  • Food that makes couples slow down. Long unhurried dinners are the honeymoon habit, and Vietnamese cuisine rewards this.

What are the most romantic destinations for a honeymoon in Vietnam?

The most romantic destinations for a Vietnam honeymoon are Halong Bay, Hoi An, Phu Quoc, Da Nang with Ba Na Hills, Sapa, and Ninh Binh. Pick 2 or 3 that match how you want the honeymoon to feel, not all six.

Feb-May, Sept-Nov

Halong Bay: the honeymoon icon that lives up to it

Halong Bay earns its reputation if you book a private or small-ship overnight junk cruise, not a day trip. A honeymoon suite with a private balcony, cave dinner, dawn kayak, and quiet karst views on either side of a candlelit deck is the moment couples remember most. Reference 5 star cruise suite: around USD 380 to 600+ per couple per night, all meals included.

BlockNote image

Hoi An: lantern-lit heritage that couples never want to leave

Hoi An is the destination most couples ask to extend once they arrive. The old town glows with lanterns every night, the Thu Bon River fills with floating candles, and boutique riverside resorts sit ten minutes from the historic core. Add a tailor session, couples cooking class, and beach afternoon at An Bang. Reference: boutique 4 star around USD 90 to 160+ per night, 5 star riverside around USD 200 to 400+.

BlockNote image

Phu Quoc: the resort finale a honeymoon should end on

Phu Quoc is where I send couples to end the trip, since it is the only Vietnamese destination built around resort culture. The southwest coast has 5 star beachfront villas with private pools, spa suites for two, and long white-sand beaches. See the full Phu Quoc breakdown for areas and transfers. Reference 5 star beach resort: around USD 200 to 500+ per night.

BlockNote image

Da Nang and Ba Na Hills: beach plus mountain in one stop

Da Nang gives you beach resort days on My Khe and a half-day up Ba Na Hills for the Golden Bridge and cable car sunset. Best as a 2 to 3 night pairing before or after Hoi An (40 minutes apart). Reference 5 star beachfront: around USD 200 to 450+ per night.

BlockNote image

Sapa: mountain retreat for couples who want quiet

Sapa is the choice for couples who want cool air, misty mornings, and hill-tribe village visits instead of another beach day. Works best as a 2-night add-on with a private guide and boutique valley-view lodge. Reference boutique lodge: around USD 80 to 250+ per night.

BlockNote image

Ninh Binh: karst rice fields and a private sampan

Ninh Binh is the north's second act after Halong. A private sampan through Trang An at dawn plus a hidden pagoda climb gives you a landscape that feels unreal. Best as a 1 to 2 night boutique retreat, not a Hanoi day trip.

When is the best time for a Vietnam honeymoon?

February to April is the only stretch when all three regions are dry at the same time, so it is the safest window for a full north-to-south honeymoon. November to March is excellent for the north and the south, but it does not hold for Central Vietnam, and this is the single most common planning mistake we see.

Here is the part most honeymoon guides get wrong. Central Vietnam runs on the northeast monsoon, not the summer one. October and November are its two wettest months: Da Nang averages around 467 mm in November and Hoi An around 454 mm, and the Hoi An old town floods most years. In November 2025 the old town flooded three times in twenty days, with water reaching the Japanese Covered Bridge. So avoid Central Vietnam from September to November, treat December as a transition month that is improving but not yet reliably dry, and put Hoi An and Da Nang in February to May.

BlockNote image

The north and the south follow a different clock: skip June to August in the north for heat and rain, and the south is at its best from November to April. Our Vietnam weather by month guide breaks each month down region by region.

Should I book a Vietnam honeymoon package or plan it myself?

For a honeymoon, a package is worth it. DIY planning means hotel headaches, missed transfers, and language friction that eat into the first week. A curated package hands you a driver, guide, and hotel arrivals with zero admin, so the first morning in Vietnam is a spa morning, not a Google Maps morning.

What are the common Vietnam honeymoon mistakes?

The most common Vietnam honeymoon mistakes come from trying to see too much, saving on the wrong things, and picking the wrong season. Avoid these 8 and the trip stays romantic instead of exhausting.

  1. Cramming 5+ destinations into 10 days. Every flight day is a lost half-day. Cap at 3 to 4 stops.

  2. Skipping a proper resort day at the end. Ending on a temple day instead of a beach day is the most common regret.

  3. Booking cheap 3 star hotels to save money. Honeymoon is the one trip where room quality matters.

  4. Missing the shoulder-season sweet spot. Early November and March give dry weather at slightly lower rates than deep peak.

  5. Skipping the Halong overnight cruise. A day trip does not capture what makes Halong romantic. Sunrise on the water is the point.

  6. Traveling Central Vietnam from Sept to Nov. This is flood season, not just typhoon season, and November is the wettest month of the year in both Da Nang and Hoi An. Shift Hoi An and Da Nang to Feb to May.

  7. Not asking for honeymoon amenities in advance. Flowers, champagne, and suite upgrades need to be requested 2 to 4 weeks ahead.

  8. Over-scheduling romantic dinners. Two or three planned dinners are romantic. Every night planned feels like a wedding schedule.
