Cat Cat is a H'Mong village in the Muong Hoa valley, about 2 km below Sapa town. H'Mong families have farmed these slopes since the 1800s, and many still weave hemp cloth, dye it with indigo and forge their own tools by hand.

You walk down a stone path past wooden houses and terraced fields to Tien Sa waterfall and the hydropower station the French built in the 1920s. Your guide grew up in this culture and explains what you see on the way, from the indigo vats to the meaning of the patterns on H'Mong clothes.

About 3 hours in Cat CatThere's plenty of free time to explore and take photos at your own pace.

11:30Lunch in Lao Chai – Ta Van: a Sapa bamboo-tray feastSapa dishes on a round bamboo tray, to share, with a vegetarian option.

Around 12:00 you arrive in Lao Chai – Ta Van, in the Muong Hoa valley, for a bamboo-tray lunch (cơm mẹt in Vietnamese), the Sapa way of sharing a meal: rice and a spread of local dishes laid out on a round bamboo tray lined with banana leaves, shared by the whole table. Expect local pork, hill chicken, buffalo smoked above the kitchen fire, stir-fried cải mèo (H'Mong mustard greens) and chẩm chéo, the mountain chili-and-herb dip. There's a vegetarian option; just tell us when you book.

Two hours to eat and restLunch and a break run until 14:00, so the afternoon isn't rushed.

Good to knowTell us about any allergies when you book.

14:00Local ActivityA walk through Lao Chai and Ta VanVillages of the H'Mong, Red Dao, Giay and Tay people.

Walk through Lao Chai and Ta Van, home to H'Mong, Red Dao, Giay and Tay communities. The villages draw visitors from Vietnam and abroad for their quiet landscape, blended with old village houses.

It's a calm, easy walk, with time to take in village life and cultures that are still very much intact. From April to September the rice terraces ripen to gold like a painting. It's harvest season, and a happy time to meet the friendly locals.

About 2 km, easy walkingVillage paths, about 30 minutes, ending at a H'Mong home for the batik workshop.
14:30Local ActivityBeeswax batik and indigo dye with H'Mong womenDraw patterns in hot wax, then dip the cloth in indigo.

At a H'Mong home in the valley, the women show you how their famous blue cloth is made. Patterns are drawn onto hemp cloth with a small copper pen dipped in melted beeswax, by hand and without a sketch. The cloth then goes into a vat of indigo, made from leaves the families grow and ferment themselves. Where the wax sits, the dye can't reach, so the pattern stays pale against the deep blue.

You try both steps yourself: draw a simple motif in wax, then dip and wring your piece in the indigo and watch it turn from green to blue as it meets the air. Your host explains what the patterns mean and how a H'Mong woman's skirt, with its batik and embroidery, can take months to finish.

Your own piece to take homeThe small batik cloth you make is yours to keep.

Good to knowIndigo stains hands and clothes for a day or two. Wear something dark.

16:00Hidden gemSunset and cats at SaMoc CafeA sun terrace over the valley, and the cafe's cats for company.

To end the day, you stop at SaMoc, a small, cosy cafe in Ta Van village with a sun terrace looking out over the mountains and rice terraces. Order a coffee or a drink, play with the cafe's friendly cats, and watch the light soften and turn gold over the Muong Hoa valley as the sun goes down.

A slow end to the dayFeet up on the terrace, a cat on your lap, the valley in front of you.

Good to knowSunset times change with the season. On cloudy days the view is about the mist rolling through the valley instead.

17:00
Back in Sapa town

Drop-off at the Stone Church around 17:00, or free at your hotel if it's on the way. End of tour.

Great planning by Meetup Travel for a couple getaway

We reached out to Meetup Travel after seeing many good reviews on Tik Tok about their itinerary planning for Phu Quoc. We first spoke to Miss Nora on the draft plan. After my wife and I decided to engage their service, a chat group in whatsapp was created and few more meetup Travel staff was added into the group. We had a 5 days 4 nights itinerary planned by the team. The team will adjust the plan according our requirements. They will also provide their professional opinion on the smooth flow of the visits to the places of attraction. During our stay in Phu Quoc, the team consist of Nora, Kim, Krystal, Stella, Hazel and Chloe will consistently in touch with us to ensure that we are enjoying ourselves. They are also responsive when we got doubt. Generally, we are able to resolve any issues within 1 or 2 hours. We are recommending Meetup Travel if you want to enjoy good customers care in Vietnam. Will engage their service for future Vietnam trip.

Money well spent to save a lot of time and peace of mind

I had a wonderful experience with Meetup Travel. The time saved and the peace of mine maintained during my first trip to Vietnam were truly impressive. It was also great interacting with my contact, Hazel Nguyen, was very kind and reassuring throughout the process. Whereas other people waited on multiple lines for quite a while, the combined time of my immigration and exit processes was less than half an hour. That just can’t be beat nowadays. Thank you again.

Meticulously planned, genuinely caring – highly recommend!

We just returned from a wonderful 10-day trip across Vietnam with Meetup Travel, covering Hanoi, Sapa, Ninh Binh, Da Nang and Hoi An. From the start, Yvonne and Danny understood our requirements really well, including our vegetarian and Jain dietary needs, and planned everything meticulously at the right price. Once the trip began, their team (Krystal, Chloe, Stella, Kim and others) was always there to make adjustments and resolve last-minute issues quickly. They genuinely cared and even arranged some lovely surprises for us along the way. The tour guides were amazing, and our guide in Sapa, Ms May Lan, was exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Vietnam and would highly recommend Meetup Travel to anyone planning a visit.

100/10 Experience! Highly Recommend Meetup Travel! 🇻🇳❤️

I booked a Ha Long Bay cruise tour for my family through Meetup Travel, and honestly, it was a 100/10 experience! I absolutely loved how well they communicated with me and helped find the best options to fit my needs. Everyone was so professional, thoughtful, and accommodating! I had the chance to meet Xeon in person, and he was such a sweetheart! 🥹 He’s enthusiastic, friendly, patient, and incredibly professional. He even took the time to help us plan our overall trip around Vietnam, despite the fact that I only booked the cruise through them and not the entire tour. He was always happy to help and never made me feel like I was asking for too much. I also had Hazel supporting me throughout the process. Both Xeon and Hazel checked in from time to time to make sure the paperwork went smoothly and that everything was going well with my family and our trip. I genuinely appreciate how much they care. You can really tell that they love what they do and truly want their customers to have the best experience possible. ❤️ The cruise itself was amazing, and I would absolutely love to come back! Everything was well organized, the staff were friendly and professional, and there was even nighttime entertainment, including a traditional clothing show and karaoke. And the food? SO GOOD! 🤣 Even now, my mom is still wondering how they managed to make the shrimp taste THAT good! I would definitely recommend Meetup Travel to foreign tourists visiting Vietnam. Traveling in a new country can sometimes be stressful, especially if you don’t speak Vietnamese, but having a team like this makes such a huge difference. They help take away so much of the stress and make you feel cared for throughout the journey. A huge thank-you to Xeon, Hazel, and the entire team for making this such a memorable experience for my family. You made our trip extra special, and we’re so grateful! If you’re planning a trip to Vietnam, definitely give Meetup Travel a try. You won’t regret it! 🥰✨
