Route 114:00About 45 minutes on the roadHotel pickup in Da Nang, and Hoi An's story on the way

Your guide and driver collect you from your hotel in Da Nang from 14:00. With nine guests at most in a DCar VIP limousine, everyone gets a wide reclining seat and hears every word. The road runs about 30 km south along the coast, past the Marble Mountains and a long line of beach resorts. On the way your guide explains where you're heading: a river port where Japanese, Chinese and later European traders did business from the 15th to the 19th century, and why its decline in the late 1800s, as trade moved elsewhere, is exactly what saved its old streets. Since July 2025 Hoi An has been part of Da Nang city, but it still feels like another world.

Why you need a tour guide for your Hoi An evening

Hoi An's old town packs more than 1,000 historic buildings into a maze of narrow lanes, and after dark it gets very crowded, especially on weekends and full-moon nights. Your guide plans the timing as you go, takes you to places like the Japanese Covered Bridge when the crowds are thinner, and keeps the group together in the busy streets.

Your guide also sorts out the tickets and the boats, and explains what you're looking at, from the flower lanterns on the river to the merchant houses and assembly halls, so the evening is about more than pretty photos.

Young and dynamic guidesYour guide is young and dynamic. They are easy to talk to and keep the evening moving without rushing you. They tell the stories behind each place, and answer your questions along the way. With max 9 guests, your guide has time for everyone in the group.

Good to knowYour exact pickup time arrives by WhatsApp the evening before. Pickup is from hotels in Da Nang city; staying further out, message us before you book.

Guide's tipAsk your guide to point out the Marble Mountains as you pass: five limestone hills, each named after one of the five elements.

Route 115:00Bay Mau coconut forest · Cam ThanhFamous ActivityBasket boats through the nipa palms of Bay MauRound boats, narrow canals, and a boatman who can spin on the spot.

Bay Mau lies about 5 km from the old town, near where the Thu Bon River meets the sea. Settlers are said to have brought nipa palms up from the south some 200 years ago; from about seven mau of planting, the forest has spread over more than 100 hectares of brackish canals. In the wars against the French and the Americans, Hoi An's revolutionaries made their base here, slipping through the palms by basket boat. The boats, called thung chai, come with a local legend: when colonial authorities taxed boats, fishermen wove round baskets instead and argued they weren't boats at all. You ride two to a boat with a local boatman, watch the famous spinning show, and try the village's everyday skills for yourself.

Good to knowBasket-boat ticket included. Life jackets provided; you may get splashed. Keep your phone in a dry pouch.

Guide's tipMany boatmen can fold a ring or a grasshopper from a palm leaf in about a minute. Ask yours.

Route 116:00Boat ride · flower lantern releaseFamous ActivityOut on the Hoai River, with a lantern and a wishThe old town's reflection, seen from the water.

Back in town, a small wooden boat takes you out on the Hoai River, which runs along the edge of the old town and joins the Thu Bon. In the late afternoon the light softens over the water, the yellow house fronts line the bank, and the first lanterns start to glow. Each guest gets a hoa dang, a paper flower lantern with a candle inside. Locals set them on the water to ask for peace and good luck, or to remember someone they have lost, and watching yours drift away is quieter and more moving than most people expect.

Good to knowBoat ticket and lantern included. The ride is short, typically around 20 minutes. River boats can be suspended when the water is high, mostly in Oct–Nov.

Guide's tipMake your wish before the candle is lit. Once the lantern is on the water, it drifts off quickly.

Route 117:00Old town walkFamous PlaceGolden hour on the yellow wallsThe hour when Hoi An's ochre walls glow and the lanterns are about to come on.

Off the boat, the light turns warm and low, and Hoi An's ochre-yellow house fronts, dark wooden shutters and bougainvillea look their best. Your guide walks the group through the quieter lanes behind the river, past merchant houses and family chapels, and explains how Hoi An's trading families lived and worked. Wear the Meetup conical hat if you like; it looks right at home against the yellow walls.

Good to knowFlat, easy walking for about 30 minutes before dinner.

Guide's tipLook up at the roofs: the yin-yang tiles, laid in alternating rows, are a Hoi An signature.

Route 118:30Little Faifo Restaurant · 4.9★ on TripadvisorLocal ActivityDinner at Little Faifo, rated 4.9 on TripadvisorHoi An home cooking at a restaurant named after the town's old name.

Dinner is at Little Faifo, a restaurant in Hoi An's old town rated 4.9 stars by travellers on Tripadvisor. Your guide explains what's on the table and why it tastes of Hoi An. The town's most famous bowl is cao lau: chewy, yellowish noodles traditionally made with lye water from wood ash, topped with sliced pork, crispy crackers and fresh herbs, with only a spoonful of broth. Mi Quang, the signature noodle of the old Quang Nam province, comes with a little rich broth and a sesame rice cracker to crumble on top, and com ga Hoi An is golden rice cooked in chicken stock, served with shredded chicken and herbs. Vegetarians get dishes of their own.

Why “Faifo”?

Faifo is what the outside world once called Hoi An. From the 16th to the 18th century, when Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese and Dutch ships came here to trade, European sailors, merchants and missionaries wrote the town's name as Faifo, and it appears that way on old European maps. Where the name comes from is still debated. One common explanation is Hoai Pho, “the town on the Hoai River”, the river you sailed on earlier. The French kept using Faifo well into the 20th century, and today the old name lives on in the restaurants, cafés and hotels of the town.

Good to knowVegetarian option available; tell us about allergies when you book. Dishes follow the restaurant's set menu and can vary. Drinks are extra.

Guide's tipToss the little broth in cao lau right through the noodles before your first bite. That's how locals eat it.

Route 119:00Free time · UNESCO World Heritage since 1999Famous PlaceFree time in the old town as the lanterns come onThe lantern-lit streets are yours until the limousine leaves at 21:00.

UNESCO inscribed Hoi An Ancient Town in 1999 as an exceptionally well-preserved small trading port, active from the 15th to the 19th century, where Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese building traditions, and later European ones, mixed on the same streets. By now the silk lanterns are on. The tradition is usually traced to the Chinese and Japanese merchants of the 16th and 17th centuries, and since 1998 the town has held a lantern night every full moon.

After dinner, the evening is yours. Walk past narrow tube houses and Chinese assembly halls to the Japanese Covered Bridge, Chua Cau, built by Japanese merchants in the 1590s and pictured on the 20,000-dong note; it reopened in August 2024 after restoration. Browse the lantern stalls and the night market, try a street snack, sit by the river, or catch Bai Choi, the sung, bingo-style folk game of central Vietnam, on the riverside stage. Your guide tells you where to find everything and where to meet the limousine.

Good to knowFlat walking on car-free streets. Evenings are busy, especially on weekends and full-moon nights. Your guide gives you the meeting point and stays reachable by phone.

Guide's tipLook at the bridge's two ends: a pair of monkey statues guards one side, a pair of dogs the other.

Route 214:00About 30 km · 45 minutesOn-time pickup in a DCar VIP limousine

Your guide and driver pick you up at your Da Nang hotel at 14:00. You travel in a DCar VIP limousine, max 9 guests on board, so everyone gets a wide reclining seat and room to stretch out. The drive south takes about 45 minutes and passes the Marble Mountains, five limestone hills named after the five elements: metal, wood, water, fire and earth. On the way, your guide tells how Hoi An grew from a Cham river port into the trading town where Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese merchants met.

Young and dynamic guidesYour guide is young and dynamic. They are easy to talk to and keep the afternoon moving without rushing you. They tell the stories behind each place and answer your questions along the way. With max 9 guests, your guide has time for everyone in the group.

Good to knowBring a small bag. Larger bags stay locked in the limousine.

Guide's tipHave a late lunch before pickup. Dinner is at 18:30.

Route 214:45Meet your bikeArrive at Tra Que and test your bikePick a bike that fits and take a short test ride.

The group gathers at the edge of Tra Que village. Each guest gets a bike adjusted to fit. Take a short test ride on the village lane, check the brakes and the seat height, and swap bikes if something doesn't feel right. Your guide also goes over the route for the ride to Bay Mau later in the afternoon.

Good to knowChild bikes and bike seats on request. Tell us ages when you book.

Guide's tipCheck the seat height now. It makes the ride later much easier.

Route 215:00National Intangible Cultural Heritage, 2022Local ActivityTra Que: a farmer's hour in the herb gardensThe 400-year-old herb village that flavours almost every Hoi An dish.

Tra Que sits on a small islet between the Co Co River and the Tra Que Lagoon, about 3 km from the old town. Families settled here around 400 years ago and found that the sandy, river-fed soil was perfect for herbs. Local legend says a Nguyen lord once ate a meal made with the village's greens and loved their taste, a mix of tea (tra) and cinnamon (que). He gave the village its name. Today around 200 households still farm about 18 hectares here, by hand, with no chemical fertiliser.

The secret is in the lagoon. Farmers collect seaweed from the water and dig it into the beds as fertiliser. It gives Tra Que basil, mint, coriander and lettuce their strong smell and clean taste. Almost every bowl of cao lau and mi Quang in Hoi An comes with greens from this village. In 2022, Tra Que's way of farming was recognised as National Intangible Cultural Heritage. In 2024, UN Tourism named Tra Que one of the world's Best Tourism Villages.

Then it's your turn. A local farmer shows you how to turn the soil with a hoe, plant seedlings and water the beds the old way, with two cans hanging from a bamboo shoulder pole. It's light work, more laughter than labour.

Your teacher is a working farmerThe person showing you around grows herbs here for a living. This is not a show. Ask anything you like: what grows in which season, why they never use chemicals, how early their day starts. With max 9 guests, everyone gets time to talk and try.

Good to knowAbout 45 minutes in the garden. Wear clothes and shoes that can get a little dirty. There is little shade, so bring a hat and sunscreen.

Guide's tipTry carrying the two full watering cans on the shoulder pole. It is harder than it looks.

Route 215:45About 35 minutes by bikeHidden gemCycling through rice fields to the coconut forestBack lanes, rice paddies and buffalo, at an easy pace.

From Tra Que, you ride out along small lanes into the countryside east of Hoi An. The road runs between rice paddies, lotus ponds and fish ponds, past village houses with the family altar in the front room. You also see family tombs standing in the middle of the fields. In central Vietnam, many families bury their ancestors on their own land, so they stay close to home.

It's flat and slow. Your guide stops whenever something is worth a look: a water buffalo in the field, rice drying by the road, kids waving from a doorway. This is the Hoi An most visitors only see through a car window, and the best way to see how people here still live.

Prefer not to cycle? No problem. Ride in the limousine with our driver and meet the group at Bay Mau. You still join the basket boats and everything after.

Good to knowAbout 35 minutes, mostly flat. Some lanes are narrow and shared with scooters, so ride in single file behind your guide.

Guide's tipRide near your guide. That is where the best stories and photo stops are.

Route 216:20UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2009Famous ActivityBasket boats in the Bay Mau coconut forestRound bamboo boats, water palms and a spin you won't forget.

Bay Mau means “seven mau”, an old Vietnamese land unit. That was the size of the forest when, locals say, settlers from the Mekong Delta planted the first water palms here more than 200 years ago. The palms spread along the brackish creeks where the Thu Bon River meets the sea, and today cover nearly 100 hectares. During the wars against the French and the Americans, the thick palms and narrow channels hid local fighters, and the forest became a revolutionary base. In 2009, UNESCO included this wetland in the Cu Lao Cham – Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve.

You explore it the local way, in a thung chai: a round basket boat woven from split bamboo. Fishermen on this coast have used them for generations. A popular story says they were made round to avoid a French tax on boats, because a basket isn't a boat. Your boatman paddles you deep into the palms, shows you the crabs and small fish that live among the roots, and may fold you a ring from a coconut leaf.

Spin or no spin? You decideBay Mau's boatmen are famous for spinning the basket boat fast in the middle of the river. It is great fun, and you will get a little wet. If you'd rather stay calm and dry, just tell your boatman before you set off.

Good to knowAbout 30 minutes on the water. Life jackets on every boat. Tipping your boatman is welcome but never required.

Guide's tipKeep your phone in a pouch or a zip bag for the spin. It is fast.

Route 216:50Along the Thu Bon RiverA river boat back to the old townLeave the bikes behind and arrive in Hoi An the way traders once did.

From the forest, you walk to the boat dock and board a wooden boat for the ride up the Thu Bon River. This river made Hoi An rich. In the 16th and 17th centuries, ships from Japan, China, Portugal and the Netherlands anchored here to trade silk, porcelain and spices, and Europeans knew the port as Faifo. Later the river slowly filled with sand, big ships moved north to Da Nang, and Hoi An was left almost untouched. That is why the old town still looks the way it does.

On the way, you pass fishermen's lift nets, riverside villages and small boatyards. Across the river from the old town lies Kim Bong, the carpentry village whose craftsmen built many of Hoi An's wooden houses and boats. You reach the old town around 18:00, just as the first lanterns come on.

Good to knowThe bikes stay behind at the dock. Bring a light layer in winter; the boat is open.

Guide's tipSit on the side facing the bank for the best photos of the old town as you arrive.

Route 218:30Little Faifo Restaurant · 4.9★ on TripadvisorDinner at Little Faifo, rated 4.9 on TripadvisorCao lau, white rose dumplings and banh xeo, at a restaurant named after the town's old name.

Dinner is at Little Faifo, a restaurant in Hoi An's old town rated 4.9 stars by travellers on Tripadvisor. Some dishes only really exist in Hoi An. Cao lau is the town's own noodle: thick, chewy and a little smoky, served with sliced pork, crispy crackers, a spoon of sauce and a handful of Tra Que greens. Locals say real cao lau needs water from the old Ba Le well and lye made from wood ash, which is why it is so hard to copy anywhere else. White rose dumplings are small, see-through shrimp dumplings folded to look like a flower, and banh xeo is a crispy rice pancake you roll yourself in rice paper with fresh herbs.

The restaurant takes its name from Faifo, what the outside world once called Hoi An. From the 16th to the 18th century, when Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese and Dutch ships came here to trade, European sailors, merchants and missionaries wrote the town's name as Faifo, and it appears that way on old European maps. Where the name comes from is still debated. One common explanation is Hoai Pho, “the town on the Hoai River”. The French kept using Faifo well into the 20th century, and today the old name lives on in the restaurants, cafés and hotels of the town.

Good to knowVegetarian and allergy menus on request. Drinks are extra. Tell us when you book.

Guide's tipMix your cao lau well before the first bite, so the sauce at the bottom coats every noodle.

Route 219:30Your evening, your paceFree evening in Hoi AnNight market, the Japanese Covered Bridge and lantern-lit lanes.

After dinner, the old town is yours. In the evening the lanes are closed to traffic and fill with the glow of silk lanterns. Your guide walks you to the Japanese Covered Bridge, built by Japanese merchants around 1593 and the symbol of the town, then points out the night market on An Hoi islet across the river and the best lantern streets for photos.

Then wander at your own pace. Take a small boat on the river and float a candle lantern for a wish, a custom locals still keep. Once a month, on the 14th night of the lunar calendar, the town switches off its electric lights and glows by lantern light alone. Meet the limousine at the agreed spot at 21:00.

Good to knowThe old town is walking-only in the evening. Boat rides and floating lanterns are paid on the spot. Keep your guide's WhatsApp handy.

Guide's tipCross to An Hoi islet for the classic view of lanterns on the river.

Route 315:00Via Non Nuoc Stone Carving VillageOff to Hoi An, via the Non Nuoc stone carvers

Along the way, we stop at Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village, where local artisans have been shaping marble into fine art for more than 200 years. Watch the craftsmen at work and see their detailed sculptures up close.

Route 316:00Basket boats · Cam ThanhFamous ActivityInto the Bay Mau coconut forestBasket boats through “the Mekong Delta in the heart of Hoi An”.

Hop into a round bamboo basket boat and glide through narrow water channels shaded by coconut palms. Join a friendly basket boat race and see if you can keep your boat spinning in the right direction. It's harder than it looks, and twice as fun!

Afterwards, slow down with a glass of fresh lemon juice and a traditional Hoi An cake.

Good to knowLemon juice and Hoi An cake are optional, at your own expense.

Route 317:00Old town walk · night marketFamous PlaceHoi An Ancient Town at golden hourPhuc Kien Assembly Hall, the Japanese Covered Bridge and an old merchant house.

Arrive in Hoi An Ancient Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, just as the afternoon light turns golden. Stroll past centuries-old shophouses and visit the colourful Phuc Kien (Fujian) Assembly Hall, the famous Japanese Covered Bridge and a traditional old merchant house.

As dusk falls, thousands of silk lanterns flicker to life. Enjoy free time to browse Nguyen Hoang Night Market and soak up the atmosphere.

100/10 Experience! Highly Recommend Meetup Travel! 🇻🇳❤️

I booked a Ha Long Bay cruise tour for my family through Meetup Travel, and honestly, it was a 100/10 experience! I absolutely loved how well they communicated with me and helped find the best options to fit my needs. Everyone was so professional, thoughtful, and accommodating! I had the chance to meet Xeon in person, and he was such a sweetheart! 🥹 He’s enthusiastic, friendly, patient, and incredibly professional. He even took the time to help us plan our overall trip around Vietnam, despite the fact that I only booked the cruise through them and not the entire tour. He was always happy to help and never made me feel like I was asking for too much. I also had Hazel supporting me throughout the process. Both Xeon and Hazel checked in from time to time to make sure the paperwork went smoothly and that everything was going well with my family and our trip. I genuinely appreciate how much they care. You can really tell that they love what they do and truly want their customers to have the best experience possible. ❤️ The cruise itself was amazing, and I would absolutely love to come back! Everything was well organized, the staff were friendly and professional, and there was even nighttime entertainment, including a traditional clothing show and karaoke. And the food? SO GOOD! 🤣 Even now, my mom is still wondering how they managed to make the shrimp taste THAT good! I would definitely recommend Meetup Travel to foreign tourists visiting Vietnam. Traveling in a new country can sometimes be stressful, especially if you don’t speak Vietnamese, but having a team like this makes such a huge difference. They help take away so much of the stress and make you feel cared for throughout the journey. A huge thank-you to Xeon, Hazel, and the entire team for making this such a memorable experience for my family. You made our trip extra special, and we’re so grateful! If you’re planning a trip to Vietnam, definitely give Meetup Travel a try. You won’t regret it! 🥰✨

Great planning by Meetup Travel for a couple getaway

We reached out to Meetup Travel after seeing many good reviews on Tik Tok about their itinerary planning for Phu Quoc. We first spoke to Miss Nora on the draft plan. After my wife and I decided to engage their service, a chat group in whatsapp was created and few more meetup Travel staff was added into the group. We had a 5 days 4 nights itinerary planned by the team. The team will adjust the plan according our requirements. They will also provide their professional opinion on the smooth flow of the visits to the places of attraction. During our stay in Phu Quoc, the team consist of Nora, Kim, Krystal, Stella, Hazel and Chloe will consistently in touch with us to ensure that we are enjoying ourselves. They are also responsive when we got doubt. Generally, we are able to resolve any issues within 1 or 2 hours. We are recommending Meetup Travel if you want to enjoy good customers care in Vietnam. Will engage their service for future Vietnam trip.

Meetup Travel the best! 💕

To the meetup travel team assigned to my family who made our first time in Vietnam so great, so convenient, so awesome and so memorable - THANK YOU SO MUCH! ♥️ I honestly have no complaints or any cons on this travel agency and just all pros and praises!! I was hesistant at first because I literally just found them on my facebook feed haha but I triple checked and they are legit! Plus plus points because they respond so so fast and almost 24/7 available to communicate with! Imagine from inquiring & planning last MARCH 2026 up to to our actual tour days this OCTOBER 17-22 2026 - their customer service, very fast response, their guidance and whole day & night availability to talk to was the best thing with this travel agency. For context, we are a group of 2 SENIORS, 2 adults and 2 TODDLERS(age 4&3) so just imagine how hard that could have been if we did not go with this travel agency. We opted for the VIP/PRIVATE TOUR for 6 days to HANOI-SAPA-DANANG-HOI AN. Our package if you think much of it was on the kinda “expensive” side but it was so so worth it! You get what you pay for - we realized it’s not expensive at all but it is quality all the way and we are so happy and grateful we came across Meetup Travel ♥️ The inquiry, quotation and planning stage with Ms. Allie as starter already made me feel comfortable that we have the right travel agency. She noted all of my requests like electric wheelchair for my senior dad, my daughter’s upcoming birthday, my request of no free time/day on our own, etc. With these, she curated the best itinerary for us while still working alongside with me all the time. She booked accessible and quality hotels with great rooms & views in Hanoi, Sapa and Danang. A week before our flight, they created a group chat for reminders and for easier everyday communication with the whole team assigned to us. There I met Chloe(hi sis you’re the best! haha), Kim, Stella, Hazel & Krystal. As usual they are all very responsive any time of the day(& night lol) and they always remind us of the itinerary for the next day and give details of drivers and tour guides the night before. That alone speaks how caring they are so we’ll have a hassle free day ahead. I super appreciate their kind gesture of visiting us on our first night in Hanoi to say hi and give some gifts to us. And also since they noted it’s my daughter’s birthday - every hotel we go to they have a design surprise for my daughter in our room, even got a free room upgrade in Sapa and also they gave a cute & big birthday cake for my daughter 🥺♥️ All drivers assigned to us and tour guides given to us per day and destination were great too! To our tour guides Alex, Daniel, Vang, Bach and John - thank you for being such fantastic, patient, open to adjustments and caring tour guides especially to my seniors and kids. And the food c/o tour! All the restaurants where the tour guides bring us for lunch and dinner were all good and delicious! ♥️ Having a private tour all the way is really awesome. We get to adjust our time and itinerary with no hassle. The D-car limousine van provided to us everyday was very very comfortable, captain seats and very spacious for us. We really couldn’t ask for more! And all of our itinerary, tour spots and activities in Hanoi, Sapa and Danang - perfect! We were able to go to all famous tour spots there is in Hanoi, Sapa, Danang and Hoi An - in just 6 days! 🥰 Everything really did go smoothly for us, weather was great, everything fell into place and timing perfectly ♥️ Everything was very exceptional and Meetup Travel really exceeded our expectations! ♥️ I highly highly recommend Meetup Travel to everyone!!! Lastly to Ms. Chloe, sis you did great! Thank you so much for the fantastic customer service, all the quick adjustments, the freebies, everything! 😘

Meetup is simply the BEST

WOWWWWWWW! What a phenomenal team to have helped me with my trip to Vietnam! I could not have asked for better support, service, and smooth planning than the team at Meetup! Michelle and Stella were on the ball from the get go! I came across this team on social media and reached out to them for help planning my holiday as a solo traveller for my first ever visit … this was less than a week before I was due to depart from South Africa to Vietnam .. So imagine my surprise when I got a response from Michelle within minutes on WhatsApp (on her off day at the hair basin ) replying ferociously that the support team would be in contact with me soon …. and boy were they! This is the first time I decided to use a travel agent abroad for hotel accommodation suggestions and tours/outing suggestions , shuttle transfers to and from the airports etc . And I am so glad I did ! It just puts your mind at ease that everything is taken care of .. Even when I needed to change a flight last minute, they were online at nearly midnight assisting me ! Michelle and Stella and all the ladies in their office have delivered the BEST service with constant updates on WhatsApp and sweet messages like tonight telling me I must sleep tight for my early flight to Thailand tomorrow x I even got to meet Michelle and Stella for coffee in Hanoi which made this whole experience even better by getting to meet the kind and beautiful people behind the paperwork ! Keep up the great service all of you at Meetup! Chloe, Kim, Krystal , Hazel Michelle and Stella … your company can be very proud of you! Sorry if I missed any but you’re all amazing xx Honestly, don’t even think twice if you’re looking for a local agency to help you plan every little detail for your holiday to Vietnam , as you won’t get better than Meetup and its passionate staff members! Till next time! God bless xxx

What most guests ask

Where do you pick us up?

From your hotel in Da Nang city, starting at 14:00. Your guide confirms the exact time by WhatsApp the evening before. Staying outside central Da Nang, or already in Hoi An? Message us before you book.

What time do we get back?

The van leaves Hoi An between 21:00 and 21:30. The drive back to central Da Nang takes about 45 minutes, depending on traffic and where your hotel is.

Is the photographer really included?

Yes, at no extra cost. A professional photographer joins the group in Hoi An from 16:00, with 20 minutes of photo time per guest, added up for your booking. They don't come to the coconut forest, so take your own shots on the basket boat. The shoot and a basic colour edit are included and your photos arrive the next morning. Detailed retouching is an add-on: US$15 for 20 photos, or US$25 for 40 photos.

Are there any shopping stops?

No. No showrooms, no tailor or souvenir-shop visits on the schedule. If you want to shop, your free time in the old town after dinner is yours to use.

Will we get wet on the basket boat?

Maybe a little. The spinning show throws up some spray. Life jackets are provided, and phones are safest in a dry pouch. If you'd rather skip the spin, tell your guide.

Is there a vegetarian option at dinner?

Yes. Tell us when you book and the restaurant prepares vegetarian dishes for you. Let us know about any allergies at the same time.

What if it rains?

The tour runs in light rain, so pack a light raincoat. If the authorities stop boats because of storms or floods, most likely in Oct–Nov, we move your date for free or refund you in full.

Is it suitable for children and older travellers?

Yes, if they're comfortable with a 7.5-hour outing that ends late. The walking is flat and short, every boat has life jackets, and every guest has their own seat in the van.

When is the full-moon lantern night?

Every month on the 14th day of the lunar calendar, the old town turns down its electric lights and the lanterns take over. It's beautiful and much busier than usual. Ask us for the next dates when you book.
