Description

This 4-day Vietnam tour departs from Hanoi and covers Hanoi–Sapa. Description:The superhighway Hanoi - Lao Cai is newly opened and this is now the best way for you to visit Sapa. In stead of 8- 9 hours by overnight train.

It is only 4-5 hours by car from Hanoi. 4-day departures from Hanoi run year-round. Book directly with Meetup Travel - all transport, accommodation, and local guides included.

Itinerary

MORNING: HANOI - PRIVATE TRANSFER TO SAPA

The overnight train from Hanoi to Lao Cai is one of the classic Vietnamese rail journeys - departing in the evening, running northwest through the Red River Valley, and arriving at dawn at the gateway to the Hoang Lien Son mountains. From Lao Cai, the road climbs 38km to Sa Pa through switchbacks that reveal the full scale of the Fansipan range.

  • Depart Hanoi early morning by private car - the expressway follows the Red River upstream through Lao Cai Province; the flat delta landscape transforms into karst foothills in the final 80km before Lao Cai, and then climbs steeply into cloud forest for the last 38km to Sapa
  • Stop for lunch at a local restaurant on the route - the altitude shift means the air temperature drops noticeably as you approach the 1,500m mark; Sapa is consistently 10-15 degrees cooler than Hanoi
  • Check into your hotel in Sapa town and take an orientation walk - the town sits in a natural amphitheatre overlooking the Muong Hoa Valley with the Hoang Lien Son peaks (Fan Si Pan at 3,143m) rising to the north

AFTERNOON: CAT CAT VILLAGE

Cat Cat Village is the closest Black Hmong settlement to Sapa town, 3km down the valley via a well-maintained walking path. The village occupies a steep hillside above a waterfall and is one of the oldest inhabited Hmong settlements in the Sapa area, with a hydroelectric plant built by the French colonial administration still visible at the waterfall base.

  • Walk down to Cat Cat from Sapa town (45 minutes, mostly downhill) - the path descends through terraced paddy fields and passes the suspension bridge over the Muong Hoa stream; the return is by the same path or by motorbike from the village
  • The Black Hmong women of Cat Cat are known for their indigo batik fabric and silver jewellery - the craft workshops in the village demonstrate the full process from raw hemp to finished textile; the dyeing vats at the stream edge are the most photogenic element
  • The waterfall below the village drops 15 metres into a pool beside the old French hydroelectric building (built 1925) - the juxtaposition of Hmong village life and colonial infrastructure in one frame is characteristic of northern Vietnamese history

Highlights

Overnight train from Hanoi northwest through the Red River Valley to Lao Cai, then 38km mountain road to Sa Pa. Check in to Topas Ecolodge at 1,400m with views across the Muong Hoa Valley.

MORNING: SAPA - TREKKING IN MUONG HOA VALLEY

The Muong Hoa Valley below Sapa is one of the most intensively terraced highland landscapes in Vietnam - the paddy fields descend from 1,400 to 800 metres in cascading steps built over centuries by the Hmong and Red Dao communities. The morning trek passes through the Black Hmong village of Lao Chai and the Red Dao village of Ta Van along the valley stream.

  • Trek from Sapa town into the Muong Hoa Valley (10km, approximately 3-4 hours) - the trail descends steeply from town before levelling into the valley floor path; the views of Fan Si Pan and the Hoang Lien Son range improve as you descend below the cloud line that typically sits at Sapa's elevation
  • Lao Chai village (Black Hmong) - the community here wears deep indigo-dyed clothing; the dyeing process uses indigo plants grown in the village fields and requires multiple days of soaking and beating the hemp fabric; the distinctive blue staining of the weavers' hands and arms is visible at close range
  • Ta Van village (Red Dao) - 2km further along the valley from Lao Chai; the Red Dao women's red embroidered headpieces and stacked silver jewellery are the most visually striking traditional dress in the Sapa valley; the community arrived from southern China in the 13th century and maintains separate ceremonial practices from the Hmong

AFTERNOON: TOPAS ECOLODGE

Topas Ecolodge sits on a granite hilltop 18km south of Sapa at 1,400 metres elevation, with 360-degree views over the Muong Hoa Valley and the Hoang Lien Son peaks. The Danish-owned resort opened in 1997 as one of Vietnam's first eco-tourism projects - 25 granite bungalows designed to have minimal visual impact on the ridgeline, with limited phone connectivity and power use deliberately kept to a minimum.

  • Transfer to Topas Ecolodge after the trek (by private car from Ta Van or Sapa) - the lodge is reached by a rough road up the granite ridge; the final approach on foot adds to the sense of arrival at a genuinely remote location
  • Sundeck and swimming pool at the lodge with the Muong Hoa Valley spread out below - the pool is positioned on the ridge to give the impression of infinity; the view encompasses the full width of the valley and the terraced hillsides on both sides
  • The lodge's dining room serves Vietnamese highland cuisine using ingredients from the surrounding Hmong villages - black sticky rice, mountain herbs, and locally raised meats are the core of the menu; the food is simpler than Sapa town restaurants but the setting transforms the experience

Highlights

Morning trek through Muong Hoa Valley rice terraces - paddy fields cascade from 1,400m to 800m through Lao Chai (Black Hmong) and Ta Van (Red Dao) villages. Afternoon return to Topas Ecolodge.

FULL DAY: TOPAS ECOLODGE - HIGHLAND RETREAT

The full day at Topas Ecolodge is the heart of this itinerary - a day with no fixed schedule, no group tours, and no motor traffic. The lodge sits on a granite hilltop at 1,400 metres with 360-degree views over the Muong Hoa Valley; the days here are determined by light, weather, and personal pace.

  • Morning hike on the lodge's trail network - the routes descend from the hilltop into the Hmong and Red Dao villages below the ridge; the lodge staff can suggest routes based on the season and your preferred distance (2km to 8km options)
  • The lodge's infinity pool on the ridge - the pool is positioned to give the impression of the water extending into the valley below; the view encompasses the full terraced landscape of the Muong Hoa Valley and the Hoang Lien Son peaks
  • Afternoon free for reading, photography, or a guided meditation walk with one of the lodge's local guides - the silence at the lodge is one of its most noted features; mobile phone signal is minimal by design
  • Highland cooking demonstration in the late afternoon: the kitchen uses ingredients from the surrounding Hmong village gardens - black sticky rice, mountain herbs, free-range chicken, and smoked fish from the valley streams

Highlights

Full day at Topas Ecolodge: optional guided walks or cycling into the valley, 360-degree views of the Muong Hoa Valley and Fansipan (3,143m) from the granite hilltop at 1,400m.

Meals Included:Breakfast, Lunch

MORNING: TOPAS ECOLODGE - FAREWELL SUNRISE

The final morning at Topas Ecolodge is best experienced on the sundeck before breakfast - the hilltop position gives an unobstructed sunrise over the Muong Hoa Valley that cannot be seen from Sapa town itself.

  • Sunrise from the lodge sundeck - the valley below fills with mist before dawn; as the sun rises, the mist burns off in layers, revealing the terraced hillsides progressively from the top down; the sound of the birds returning to the hillside trees begins at first light
  • Final breakfast on the lodge terrace - the last meal prepared from valley-sourced ingredients before the return to city food; black sticky rice and herb omelettes are the lodge breakfast signature

AFTERNOON: DRIVE FROM TOPAS TO HANOI

  • Transfer from Topas Ecolodge to Sapa town (private car, 18km) and then continue to Hanoi via the Lao Cai expressway (total 5-6 hours)
  • The descent from the ridge to the valley road takes about 30 minutes; the temperature rises steadily as the car drops from 1,400 metres to the Red River Delta at near-sea level
  • Arrive Hanoi in the early evening - contact Meetup Travel to confirm any airport connections or additional services

Highlights

Final sunrise from Topas Ecolodge sundeck before the valley mist lifts. Morning Sa Pa market visit for Hmong crafts, then afternoon train from Lao Cai back to Hanoi.

An unforgettable Honeymoon experience

If you’re hesitant about booking with them, don’t be. This was hands down one of the best travel experiences we’ve ever had, and a huge part of that was because of Stella, Ted, and Kaitlyn. From the very beginning, they were professional, responsive, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about making sure our trip was exactly what we wanted. We just returned from an incredible 10-day HONEYMOON trip through Vietnam, including Sapa, Ha Long Bay and our cruise, Ninh Binh, Da Nang, Hoi An and the Lantern Festival. Every detail was thoughtfully planned and organized, allowing us to enjoy the experience without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. The itinerary flowed perfectly and gave us plenty of time to truly appreciate each destination. What impressed us most was how easy they made everything. Airport transfers, fast-track services, eSIM setup, domestic flights, hotel arrangements, tours, and transportation were all handled seamlessly. Anytime we had a question or needed help, they responded quickly. If they didn’t already have an answer, they went out of their way to find one. Traveling in a foreign country can sometimes be stressful, but having a team like this behind you gives you complete peace of mind. They made the entire process smooth, enjoyable, and worry-free from start to finish. We couldn’t recommend Stella, Ted, and Kaitlyn more highly and her team who helped them out when they couldn’t respond. If you’re considering a trip to Vietnam, do yourself a favor and book with them. You’ll be glad you did The trip exceeded our expectations in every way, and we made memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you for helping make it so special

Great Experience with MeetUp Travel for Vietnam

Just happened to see their posts in Instagram while searching for things to do in Vietnam for our trip. I sent a short message to ask about their services and Jeannie reached out and gave us the information and walked us through the tours they’ve provided other travelers. So glad we asked them to help with planning our trip; Krystal was the one who handled the planning of whole trip walking us through the proposed itinerary, asking us for feedback on what we want to experience and the food requirements. We had a great time in Da Nang and Hanoi. The time in Ba Na Hills and the beaches in Da Nang were just amazing; we loved whiling our time drinking our guava juice and eating authentic hot stone pho noodles that tasted absolutely awesome. It was such a breeze as they took care of all booking for the hotels, all activities and the inter-island flight. Spared me the hassle of looking for good hotels and lining in long lines for the activities in Ba Na Hills and Vinwonder. The fast pass they gifted us was such a blessing. Everything were planned so well all we needed to do was just enjoy the experience. Our e-sims were also handled by the team which was also a gift. Krystal walked us through the before and after getting to Vietnam. Everyday was coordinated and planned so well it exceeded our expectations. No issue with transportation and tours as we had our very own tour guides. All in all, we wouldn’t have had such an amazing time in Vietnam without the MeetUp team. Thanks for the great experience! Kudos to Jeannie and Krystal. Thanks so much for the freebies and kind gestures. We’ve made good friends in MeetUp. Til our next trip.

Awesome trip to Vietnam Hanoi/Halong Bay/Sapa by Rosie and Krystal

Was just browsing which country to go for this school holiday and meetup travel popped up on my IG. Didn’t heard of it before from any friends so initially was quite skeptical about it. Especially when we have a group of 17 people with a large deposit amount to make. But travel consultant, Rosie kept finding ways to assure us and proof that they are not scammers. Haha. Story short, my first time to Vietnam planned by her and Krystal was superb. It was really nicely done up and follow up was very responsive too. Most importantly, all of us really enjoyed ourselves and had a wonderful and pleasant trip! Will look up for them again when we plan to visit other parts of Vietnam! cheers!

The Best, Well Organized, Professional, Friendly travel agency you can get in Vietnam

Our choice of Hanoi for our Rotary strategic planning was a great choice. Meetup travel took care of all our needs from the time of inquiry, arrival, meeting, to our tour proper. Henry, Stella and the rest of the team were so helpful. They made sure everything we needed for our meeting was available. Our customized tour was so good, everyone was all smiles. Our trip to Halong Bay was memorable because of a very professional and witty guide named Tiger. Out mid trip changes were likewise accommodated. Surely this experience will make us want to come back to Vietnam.

Solo travel to Tà Xùa

Booked through Meetup for my trip to Tà Xùa from Hà Nội. Hazel and Rosie were incredibly helpful with their prompt replies for every question I had. They would also check in with you while you’re on the way to your destination. Everything was arranged quite well. Itinerary sent to you directly for the trip you’re making. However, there’s a little room for improvement for the team at MeetUp and that’s the coordination between the team and the drivers (at the destination) and the hotel or homestay staff at the destination (for both arrival and departure). All information should be prearranged, collected beforehand and given to the guest at earliest possible time to avoid any confusion or misunderstanding. Other than that, the trip was rewarding experience overall thanks to Hazel, Rosie and the rest of the team! 🤘🏽

Best experience of Vietnam!!!

Just wanted to say the biggest thank you to Bichann and Chloe as well as the rest of the Meetup Travel team for all the support during our family’s trip to Hanoi and Sapa. Your constant communication and dedication made our trip seemless and resolved all issues that arose as soon as possible. The tour guides and services provided (including transportation to all locations and to and from the airpor) was amazing and so accommodating for our elderly grandparents. 100% recommend to anyone who wants a fun-filled experience with knowledgable agents, that always on hand to answer queries- no matter the time zone.

Sapa Magic with Meetup!

Meetup Travel is unique. Jasmine talked to me face-to-face online 2 times before we confirm the trip to Sapa. Usually, travel agencies only send the itinerary but Meetup has agents to customize the tour package, talking to you. Jasmine is very friendly and interesting to talk to. She understands the needs and wishes of customers. In the advent of artificial intelligence, Jasmine makes customers feel human and cared for. The limousine van was comfortable with several stops for toilet breaks and food/drinks. Hanoi to Sapa is about 6 to 7 hours away. The Sapa tour packages were well-organized with a local tour guide, Vang. He takes good photographs with his professional camera. Which tour agent provides such a service? You have to pay a lot of money for a professional photographer to go along with you. And not all tour guides can take good photographs for you and your family, patiently and with many poses. We recommend you to have a private tour if photographs are important to you. As we have a toddler, private tours maximize your comfort and enjoyment of the tour. Vang is also kind and attentive to your wishes. Meetup Travel agents also communicate often with us. Chloe also briefed us before the tour to ensure we knew what to do during the tours. And Chloe and her team of agents never fails to make us feel like family in a group chat. We talked often about the tours and raised problems to them. They replied within seconds! Usually, tour agents don’t talk to you after payment, only the tour guide brings you around. Hence, Meetup Travel is a very different kind of travel agencies that you can’t find easily. Just pay a little more and you are provided with 5-star service and attention! You have paid so much money on your tour package. Why not pay a little more to have a perfect holiday experience?
